Meet Susie, a pit bull-shepherd mix. When she was a puppy she was beaten, set on fire and left to die in a park. Many of her teeth were knocked out and she sustained burns over 60% of her body. When she was found she had over 300 maggots in her wounds. But Susie survived and in the process changed the laws for animal cruelty. Thanks to “Susie’s Law”, cruelty towards animals is now a felony offence in North Carolina which means more jail time and tougher penalties.
